Derwent Place, Bedfordshire
This 21-unit scheme was located on a former industrial site that housed a Victorian Laundry and 1960s car repair workshop. We introduced the site to Aldwyck Housing Group after they informed us of their requirement to utilise RCGF urgently in Bedfordshire. The site was heavily contaminated, immediately adjacent to a railway line, required piling and had a heavily dilapidated wall immediately adjacent to it. Due to these issues, rather than initially fix the cost of the build, we agreed with Aldwyck to work through each item in order to minimise as much risk as possible, enabling both parties to have enough confidence to enter into a fixed price design and build contract. This is a process we have replicated successfully with Aldwyck on further sites in order to reduce risk for both parties and create as competitive a final build cost as possible.
The scheme has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Central LABC Building Excellent Awards 2019 for both Best High Volume New Housing Development and Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development.
