This rural exception site was won at tender. A cost saving exercise was then undertaken from the initial tender specification to bring it in to the Client’s budget constraints. We added in a schedule of potential cost savings including specification and material considerations that the Client used to bring the project into budget. The site location at the end of a rural lane with a tight access for delivery meant we had to work closely with local residents and the school to make sure our on-site activities caused as little disruption as possible. The end units were built to Code for Sustainable Homes level 3, incorporating a balancing pond and both air source heat pumps and photovoltaic cells into the design.
